Big Bash League

On 1 January 2008 Steve Smith made debut in Big Bash league for New South Wales against South Australia. In 2011 and 2012 he joined Sydney Sixers and because the absence of Haddin he led Sydney Sixers in that competition. He performed very well in Big Bash as a captain and as a all rounder he scored 166 runs and took 6 wickets in 9 matches.

In Big Bash he played very well and Pune Warriors singed him in Indian Premier League.

In Indian Premier League Steve Smith played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2010 season in replacement of Jessy Ryder. In 2011 season of Indian premier league Kochi Tuskers Kerala bought him for $200,000 but could not make appearance because of injury.

In 2012 season of Indian Premier League auction Pune Warriors India bought him in the replacement of Marsh. He scored 39 runs against Mumbai Indians and won the match, he named the man of the match.

Rajasthan Royals bought him in 2014 Indian Premier League for 40 million rupees and he led the Rajasthan Royals in 2014 IPL.
